How I Style: Double Denim #2

Yesterday was denim jeans and a denim shirt, today it's denim shorts and denim jacket. Think of it a shorts suit. Kind of.

Like I said yesterday, you don't want to go matchy matchy with your denim. Doubling up on the same shade of denim is never a good look. Instead, go for different shades and different textures.

Today, I've gone for a light wash denim jacket, and a pair of mid-wash ripped up denim shorts. I've also added a bit of a pattern clash into the mix, with a simple striped vest top and a pair of floral sandals.

How I Style: Double Denim #1

Don't worry, double denim isn't how it used to be. I'm going to show you how to wear double denim without looking like an 80's throwback.

My first rule of double denim is not to wear the same tone of denim head to toe. Here I've gone for a slightly darker denim on my top half, breaking it up with a tan belt and turquoise vest top underneath the shirt.

The shirt also has an aztec print across the chest, which stops the outfit from looking like a block of denim.

Shpock (Shop in your Pocket) // 4 reasons to buy & sell second hand

Today I'm going to share with you something a little different. I was contacted by the team at Shpock who wanted to let me know about this new app launching to the UK market. As soon as I received the email I downloaded the app so I could check it out. Let me explain how the app works first....

Shpock stands for 'Shop in your Pocket'. The app is available to download both for Android  and iOS, and is free to download. It is also free to buy and sell using this app.

It is similar to Ebay, but much more simple to use. It is very simple to browse through many products that are for sale, and super simple to upload images of items that you want to sell! There are seven search categories: Fashion & Accessories; Home & Garden; Electronics; Movies; Books & Music; Baby & Child; Sport; Leisure & Games; Cars & Motors. Of course, I'm most interested in the Fashion & Accessories category!

There are also special categories: New in your area; Giveaways; Young Designers, Friends and Following. The New in your area category is great as it shows up what people are selling within a certain distance from your postcode. If you see something you like, and it's close to where you live, you can pick the item up rather than paying for delivery and waiting for it to arrive.

The Young Designers category is probably my personal favourite. Rather than people selling second hand things, this category is full of cool things that have been hand made. Don't think fuddy duddy craft fair, think slick one-off boutique.

Monday Wishlist #15

1. Miss Selfridge Digital Wrap Crop Top: The crop top trend is not going away any time soon. I've been spotting a few of these wrap style crop tops hitting the High Street recently. I really want to try out one of these style crop tops as I can imagine it looking super flattering. I also really like the print on this crop top. It is a floral, but has a darker and more neutral base colour, meaning it won't look out of place worn in autumn, as well as spring/summer. This top would look great with a pair of high-waisted, wide leg trousers and some mega high wedges.

2. River Island Chelsea Girl Fruity Cami Dress: There's only one item of footwear I can imagine pairing with this gorgeous summer dress, and that's a pair of pool sliders! I think a red pair would look amazing with this dress. Just imagine strolling though a market on holiday in this outfit ‐ perfection!

3. New Look Grey Strappy Midi Dress: This dress is very similar to the River Island midi dress, but I'd style this one in a completely different way. A leather jacket thrown over this grey midi, worn with a pair of ankle boots, gives the dress a cooler edge, perfect for summer gigs!

4. Topshop Paradise Tee: If you saw last weeks 'How I Style' posts, you may have noticed that I'm kinda into these slogan tees right now. The two I already own are both grey with white writing, while this one is black with white writing. I have recently bought a pair of printed trousers (I included them in this wishlist), and I think this top would look great with those trousers. It would look just as good with a pair of black skinny jeans and ankle boots for a grungier look.

Is there anything in the shops that you're lusting after right now?

WIWTW (What I Wore This Week) #32

Hi everyone,

This week I've been getting back into my routine after having last week off. Not too much of a hectic week but certainly not a quiet one!

On Tuesday I fancied wearing something a bit bright for work, so pulled out this top I picked up the other week. I love the deep, inky purple background against the neon florals. I haven't got anything else with a similar print to this top. I kept my bottom half simple with my staple black Joni jeans and black sandals.

MAC Candy Yum Yum Dupe?

Last week I shared my thoughts on the Barry M Hi Shine Lips in Alpha and Electra. While taking photographs of these products and swathing them, I thought to myself 'Electra looks a lot like MAC's Candy Yum Yum ' and it does!

It's not a complete dupe. MAC's Candy Yum Yum has a matte finish, while the Barry M Hi Shine Gelly Lips in Electra  has, as the name suggests, a glossy finish.

As you can see in the swatches below, Electra is a tad darker than Candy Yum Yum. Candy Yum Yum is more of a neon pink, while Electra has a little more of a fuchsia tone to it.

Indeed Labs Facial Powdered Exfoliator // My Thoughts

A few weeks back I was browsing the beauty aisles in Boots, as you do, when I spotted this new exfoliator from Indeed Labs. I decided to pick it up as the idea of powdered exfoliator intrigued me.

I was interested in why the product was powdered, not just a traditional cream formula, so I looked up the Indeed Labs website and did some reading. I thought I'd share some of the science bit with you, in-case you're interested, like me.

First of all, I wanted to know why the product was powdered. The idea behind this is that you can add as much or as little water to the powder to form a foamy texture. You can also add some of this powder to your cleanser to turn that into an exfoliator.

The Indeed Labs Powdered Exfoliator claims to be 'designed to immediately brighten skin and restore it's natural radiance. This enzyme micro-powder creates a creamy foam when mixed with water, gently exfoliating to deliver superior skin resurfacing of the face, neck and chest to reveal a softer, smoother and more polished skin texture without the use of harsh abrasives.'

This Powdered Exfoliator contains five key actives: Bamboo extract; Rice Bran Powder; Okinawa Red Algae; Hyaluronic acid and Bromelain. All of these extracts provide many benefits including gentle exfoliation, antibacterial cleansing, prevent wrinkles, retain moisture and help prevent acne.

So, after reading up about the facts, what are my actual thoughts on the product?

I think the powdered exfoliator is a bit of a gimmick. I get the concept, but it ends up being a bit messy, and I find myself using way too much product. I'd much rather use a cream formula than have to faff on adding the right amount of water to the powder.

My skin does feel amazingly soft after using this exfoliator, although I have used other, less pricier, exfoliators which have left my skin feeling just as soft. If you're looking for a good exfoliator I'd highly recommend The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion. It is amazing.

How I Style: The Slogan Tee #2

If you saw yesterday's post (click here to read that) then you'll already know how much I'm loving the Slogan Tee right now. Today I'm styling a different Slogan Tee. OK, it's not that different really, but the Slogan is different, so that's fine, right?

This is outfit is *slightly* more dressed up, although at the moment it's probably too hot to be wearing leather shorts and tights! This could be a great outfit for a night time occasion, maybe a cinema date, or going out for pizza? Somewhere you want to look like you've made an effort, but not like you've gone all out.

Today's Slogan Tee is actually from Marks & Spencer. I have to pass through M&S whenever I get off the bus to go shopping, and I pass by the Limited Edition collection and it always draws me in to have a little look as I pass by. It was one of those times that I was passing by that I spotted this gorgeous tee. It says on the front 'Break the rules everyday'. It wasn't really the slogan that drew me to this top, it was the placement of the slogan. It is a slightly cropped top, which means on me it is a nice length, not too short and not too long. The fabric is also amazingly soft. That was the deal breaker for me. M&S clothes are always amazing quality.

Enough about the top, let's get back to the outfit. I decided to layer up with a checked shirt, but kept to the grey colour palette. Halfway through taking my photographs I took the shirt off and tied it around my waist. I never thought tying a shirt around my waist would suit me, but I actually love how it looks!

I kept the rest of my outfit simple with a pair of black faux leather shorts, black tights and some black heeled ankle boots.

How I Style: The Slogan Tee #1

Hey everyone,

Have you noticed that slogan tees are everywhere tight now? They've been making their way into our high street stores for a little while ago, with the trend bubbling under the surface. Right now though, the Slogan Tee trend seems to be hitting the High Street hard. If you look in River Island's store windows, they have at least one mannequin which has a slogan tee on.

I've been quite into this trend recently, but didn't really like any of the actual slogans. Then I spotted this one on the New Look website. I like that the tee is grey with while writing, so it's a little more subtle than black and white. I, of course, also love that it says 'Fashion Blogger'. What Fashion Blogger wouldn't, right?

Today I've styled my Slogan Tee in a very casual way, with a pair of Mom Jeans. I added a pair of bright yellow sandals for a pop of colour. This would be a great casual weekend outfit for running errands, or even out shopping wit friends.

Battle of the Brows //Maybelline V Benefit

Hi everyone,

Today I thought I'd chat about brows. I had my brows tinted and waxed on Friday, so I thought today would be a good to chat about brow gels, while my brows are still looking their best!

I'm going to compare Maybelline's Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara and Benefit's Gimme Brow. Maybelline's Brow Drama is a 'drugstore' product, and costs only £4.99, while Benefit's Gimme Brow is a more high-end product, and costs £17.50. I wanted to know if it was worth paying more than three times the amout for the Benefit Gimme Brows, or if the Maybelline Brow Drama is just as good. Here's what I thought...

Let's start with each products claims.

Maybelline states that their product has a 'detailing ball brush that combs through every hair for a natural even finish' and that it has a 'long-wearing formula that won't streak, clump or flake'.

Benefit states 'This innovative brush-on fiber gel adheres to skin and hair, creating brows where before there were none. It builds easily for thick, lush arches, thanks to a tapered brush for blending and precision tip for shaping.'

I think the claims for both of these products are true. The Maybelline Brow Drama does give a natural, even finish, and it does not streak, clump or flake. I also think the Benefit claims are true, to a point. I don't think it 'creates brows where before there were none' but I do think it builds easily and the tip is great for precision.

Monday Wishlist #14

1. Miss Selfridge Floral Trumpet Hem Dress: I tried on a skirt in Miss Selfridge which had the same shape as this dress and I really like how it looked on. With me having curvier hips I never thought a trumpet hem dress/skirt would suit me, but they do. It kinda balances out my hips and flatters my hourglass figure. The trumpet shape gets a big thumbs up from me! This dress is so pretty for the summer. It would look amazing with some white minimal heels and wavy hair.

2. River Island Tres Chic L'amour Slouchy Tee: I'm obsessing over slogan tees right now, and I always love a stripes top. Put the two together and you get this gorgeous casual tee. Great to throw on with anything from leggings, skinny jeans, or denim shorts, this would be a top that would get worn over and over again.

3. M&S Limited Edition High Block Heel Platform: I actually saw these shoes when I was shopping in town last week. Marks & Spencer is not generally a shop I'd visit if I was on the hunt for an amazing pair of going out heels. My Mam was looking for a new pair of shoes for work, so while I was patiently waiting for her I of course had a browse around myself. That's when I saw these beauts and my heart stopped. They are an absolutely gorgeous shape, and the print is stunning, too. If someone told me I'd fall in love with a pair multicoloured animal print heels from Marks & Spencer's I would have laughed in their face, but I have fallen hard. I can't stop thinking about these and how amazing they would look with so many different outfits.

4. New Look Blue Peplum Shell Top: As well as lime, this cobalt blue colour is one of my fave for this summer. The two colours look great together. I've just bought a pair of trousers from Miss Selfridge, which I featured in last weeks Monday Wishlist, which would look great with this top for a more casual look. It would also look great with a pencil I have which has a touch of lime green in the print. Of course, this could also be worn with simple black skinnies.

Lip of the Week #2

Hey everyone,

This week I've been going for bright lips since the sun's been out! I'm always attracted to bright lipsticks, but because I like to wear bright/printed clothes, sometimes I think a bright lip looks too much.

On Monday I decided to go for Maybelline's Shocking Coral. I haven't worn this in soooo long, so I pulled out today. It doesn't look as bright in this photograph as the actual lipstick does in the tube, but I think that makes it more wearable. We don't always want to wear a neon bright lip, right?

WIWTW (What I Wore This Week) #31

Hey everyone,

Another bust week for me, but I've been on holiday from one of my jobs (the one where I have to wear a uniform), so there's more outfit photos this week yay!

On Monday I had a totally free day so I decided to have a HUGE wardrobe clear out. I took everything out and off the hangar, then put them into piles of dresses; tops, knitwear etc. I packed away all my chunky winter jumpers and stuff that I don't tend to wear much in the summer et voila a much neater wardrobe was achieved!

After I'd finished that, I got ready properly. This is what I wore. Super casual, I've been loving these relaxed slim jeans from New Look. They have rips in the knees, which is exactly what I've been looking for for so long! I think I might get myself another pair and add some badges to them. I threw on a vest top and a pair of white sandals to finish my casual outfit.

MAC Patent Polish Lip Pencil in Fearless // My Thoughts // Swatches

Since it's turned out to be such a lippy week on the blog, I thought we may as well go out with a bang with this beaut from MAC. The new PatentPolish Lip Pencils are described as having 'the colour and shine of a gloss, the precision of a lip pencil'.

I chose the colour 'Fearless', a deep blue pink. I thought it would be a great shade for the summer as it is a lovely pink, not too bright but still adds a pop of colour to your face.

I was surprised when I popped the lip off of this lip pencil to reveal the rounded tip rather than the traditional pointed tip. At first I thought the rounded tip would make it difficult to get an even application around the lip line but it really isn't. As the product has a glossy formula, it goes on really smoothly so apply really well. If this was a matte product, the rounded tip would make it really difficult to apply.

This particular colour lasted pretty well on me, although once I had eaten something it rubbed off. I expected that as it is a glossy product. Maybe one of the darker colours would last better?

Overall I think this is a great no fuss lip product which is perfect for the summer. Apply in seconds then throw it in your bag for quick touch ups during the day.

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Lips // My Thoughts // Swatches

A few weeks ago I ordered these new Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Lips  from ASOS, as they weren't available from Boots, but they are now. They are described as 'soft, moisturising lip crayons in 5 hot shades, with an ultra rich, highly pigmented formulae, Gelly Hi Shine Lips create an intense depth of colour with an unbelievable sheen.'

How I Style: The Floral Skort #2

A more casual take on the Skort for today's outfit post.

As I said yesterday, a floral print is great as there are so many colours you can pick from to match with the print. Today I've gone for a muted mint green lightweight jumper.

The texture of the jumper, and the fact I'm wearing flats, gives the skort a much more casual look. This means you can get much more wear out of your skort throughout the summer. I think this particular skort would even look good with a bikini on holiday if you were going to a pool party. *sigh* I wish I had a holiday booked!

How I Style: The Floral Skort #1

The 'skort' is the hottest item on the High Street right now. Head into any store and you'll easily find at least one version. Zara started the trend, with many other High Street stores quickly following.

My skort is, of course, from New Look. It's the only place I shop nowadays. Well, when you get a great staff discount, why would you want to shop anywhere else?

I love floral prints for the summer. There's so many bright colours within the print that you could pick any of those colours for your top. For today's outfit I picked a neon yellow cami top to pair with my skort.

Since there's so much going on with the outfit, I kept the accessories simple. Nude shoes and a gold necklace are the perfect finishing touches. A bright pink lip seals the deal.

Monday Wishlist #13

1. New Look Light Pink Crepe Textured Longline Jacket: This is thee perfect spring/summer jacket. A longline blazer which is lightweight enough to wear during the spring, but will also keep the chill out on cooler summer evenings. I think this would look amazing over a cream jumpsuit with tan accessories. It could easily be dressed down, too. Wearing this over a pair of denim shorts and grey tee with some sandals would add a touch of class to an otherwise casual outfit. I NEED IT.

2. Topshop Pleat Short Playsuit: I love a good playsuit for a night out. Let's get real, once I've had a few drinks I'm not necessarily that worried about my dress creeping up. A playsuit saves my dignity when I'm throwing myself around on the dance floor. This one is so pretty. I'd wear it during the day as well as night time. I think it would be perfect for a summer wedding. The little cut out in the front is nice, too. Stops is from being too conservative!

3. Miss Selfridge Lime Print Jogger: We all know how much I love lime. I also really like a good pair of printed trousers. My Mam and I are going shopping on Thursday together so I think I might pop into Miss Selfridge to try these on. I can imagine myself wearing these with my New Look lime knitted vest top that I wore last week. These would also be perfect for a night out with a pair of black heels. I'm having a night with the girls on Saturday, so if these look good on maybe you'll be seeing them in next weeks WIWTW.

4. Miss Selfridge Matilda Print Wedge: Printed heels are one item I don't have in my wardrobe. Well, I have a pair ankle boots which have leopard print on the back, but that's about it. Imagine these with an LBD and a yellow/lime clutch, amazing! I'd also wear these wedges with a floral summer dress for a bit of a pattern clash. Try to keep the background of the dress black so pull the look together, though!

Lip of the Week #1

I've decided to start posting 'lip of the week' posts. I have a huge lipstick collection, and I'm thinking it will encourage me to get more use out of lipsticks that I don't wear as often.

So here's my first Lip of the Week post.

On Tuesday I wore the L'Oreal GlamShine Stain Splash in Princess. It is a lovely corally red colour, which feels nice and light on the lips. It stays quite well on the lips, I didn't have to reapply it for work.

WIWTW (What I Wore This Week) #30

Hi everyone,

I've had such a busy week this week that I'm surprised I even managed to take outfit photographs. On Monday it was a bank holiday and I was at work during the day. After a busy shift like the last thing I want to do is come home and get dressed up, the only thing that's on my mind is a shower and pyjamas!

On Tuesday I took my outfit photos before I left for work as I had some spare time. I love this knitted vest top. Since it has low armholes I layered a crop top underneath, which I think worked well. I don't like the look of just having a bra showing, unless it was a neon lacey one.

I've been wearing my sandals for work a lot lately as they're so comfortable. I walk around so much during the day, back and forth across the shop, it's a nightmare if my shoes start to rub, so these sandals are perfect.

How I Style: The Mac #2

Hey everyone,

As I said in yesterday's post, I was sent this gorgeous Mac from justfor5pounds. Check out yesterday's post for a mini review on it!

Yesterday I styled the Mac in a more dressed up, girlie style, so today I wanted to go for a more casual look. Although this looks like quite a formal jacket, it's easy to dress it down over a pair of jeans and a top.

Like yesterday's outfit, I've kept to the neutral tones of the jacket with a pair light stone coloured boots. Jeans-wise, I decided to go for a lighter wash, as black is too much of a contrast against the nude colours. A floral top makes the outfit a little more interesting.

I'd wear this outfit on a day to day basis, on casual days where I want to look like I've made an effort.

How I Style: The Mac #1

Hi everyone,

This week I'm styling The Mac. I was lucky enough to be contacted by Stephanie from justfor5pounds.com, who said she would like to send me an item of clothing for me to check out. I agreed, and this is what I received. I am so happy with it! I am normally very picky with clothes, so I was a little worried that I wouldn't like what was sent to me, but I really do! I was also so surprised by the quality of the jacket. The thing that springs t mind when you see 'justfor5pounds' is that the clothing probably won't be that great, right? Well that's exactly what I thought, but I was wrong. This jacket didn't come with a belt, but for me that's a good thing as I hate the fabric belts that normally come with jackets like this. It also means that it doesn't have belt loops on the actual jacket, so if you don't want to wear a belt with it you don't have to.

So a big thank you to Stephanie from justfor5pounds!!

Back to styling. A Mac is such a classic piece, it can be thrown over anything, really. I've decided to dress it up a little day by wearing it over a summer dress.

To define my waist, I added a wide tan belt, which looks great with my tan sandals. It almost looks like a dress on it's own like this! I really like how the stone and tan look together. I wanted to keep to the neutral/tan/stone colours with my dress, so I went for an H&M dress I've had for a little while. It's a lovely fit, and overall I think this outfit is perfect for spring. I'd wear it out shopping with my friends, or even out for a meal with my boyfriend.

Met Gala 2014 // Best Dressed

If you follow the fashion world, then you'll already know that The Met Gala is one of the biggest events on the fashion calendar. Last year's Punk theme sparked the tartan/plaid that's still in our high street stores (and our wardrobes) a year later.

So what's the theme this year? Well, the Exhibition that is opening is the Charles James: Beyond fashion exhibition. Click here if you want to know more about the couturier. What you do need to know is that the theme was white tie. Therefore, glamorous gowns and suits were the dress code.

Here are my top five best dressed of the night.

Monday Wishlist #12

1. Kate Moss for Topshop Embroidered Smock Dress: I wasn't that interested in the big Kate Moss for Topshop launch. I was never going to be buying anything from the collection as it was so over priced, so I just lacked interest in the whole thing. I must admit, I don't actually really like Kate Moss' style that much. It was only while scrolling through the Topshop 'new in' section that I spotted this beauty. A gorgeous kaftan style dress, perfect to wear with a pair of gold sandals on a hot summer night.

2. Miss Sefridge Floral Lace Cut Out Bodycon Dress: I'm loving cut out dresses right now, especially high necked styled that don't show off too much skin. This is such a pretty, girlie dress which would be perfect if you were going to Lady's Day at the Races.

3. New Look New York Flower Print Tee: Since I've been to New York, and desperately want to go back, I'm always attracted to tops with 'New York' written on them. Normally they are quite sporty styles, which aren't really for me, which is why this tee caught my eye. I love that the floral print gives it more of a feminine edge.

4. Topshop MOTO Dark Floral Mom Jeans: Mom shorts are definitely the best style of denim shorts for me. The slightly longer length means that your bum doesn't hang out the bottom of the shorts, and the high waist is super flattering. Perfecting for wearing with crop tops, or with tops tucked in.

WIWTW (What I Wore This Week) #29

Hi everyone,

It's that time of the week again when I talk you through what I've been wearing this week.

On Monday I had an interview for some work experience. I'm still waiting to hear back from that, so fingers crossed for me everyone! I wanted to wear some smart, but not too formal as it was only a quick interview. I decided to go for this lovely blouse from New Look as it doesn't have a collar so looks a little more casual. I also wore my Topshop Joni jeans as they're the closest I have to black trousers. On my feet I wore nude loafers as it was quite a warm day so I decided to let my feet breath a bit. I threw on the smartest jacket I have, which is also from New Look but is very very old. I bought it in a sale about five years ago!

Huge Fashion Haul Part One // New Look

Hey everyone,

These past few weeks I've gone bit crazy shopping. So much so that I've actually had to split it into two blog posts! So here is the first part. Everything in this post is from New Look. I've linked everything bar one item which I couldn't find on the New Look Website.

First up, I bought some basics. I love wearing crop tops in the summer, with high waisted shorts/skirts, of course. Neon lime green is my favourite colour right now, so I had to grab it when I saw it.

Dove Style+Care Dry Shampoo // My Thoughts

I've only recently felt the need to use dry shampoo. When I had short hair, it was so quick to wash, dry and straighten my hair that I didn't need a dry shampoo as I just washed my hair most days. Now that my hair is longer, and takes a fair bit of time to get through my hair routine, I try to only wash my hair every third day. That's when a dry shampoo comes into play.

How I Style: The Tropical Midi Skirt #2

Hi everyone,

If you saw yesterday's post, you'll have seen How I Styled the Tropical Midi Skirt, as Co-Ord. Today, I've styled the midi skirt in a more casual way.

I love to get the most out of my clothes, why is why I like to show you two ways to style an item each week. Who wants to buy a skirt you can only wear one way? Not me!

Skirts like this one are super versatile, as you pick out any colour from the print and wear a top that colour. I've gone with pink.

A fluffy pink jumper is the perfect way to make this Midi Skirt look a little more casual, and fun, too. The pink looks great with the Tropical print on the skirt, and I've gone for a pinky nude loafer, which are so comfortable but look great.
