How I Style: The Airtex Midi Skirt #3

Over the past few weeks I've realised how versatile this skirt is. Check out my two other outfit posts featuring this skirt here and here

For this outfit I decided to add a statement blazer and a some colour with my cobalt cami and heels. These are the shoes I wore for my graduation, I love them so much!

The Best Foundation for Oily Skin? YSL Fusion Ink Foundation

I think *holds breath* I have found my holy grail foundation. Exciting, right?

A few weeks ago, after staying the night at boyfriends, I was getting ready for work when I realised I hadn't packed my foundation. Cue panicking about what I was going to do, followed by a decision to pick up a new foundation in Boots and do my make-up before I started work. Originally I was going to grab something from Revlon or Rimmel, then remembered that I had wanted to try the new YSL Fusion Ink Foundation for a while, which is how I ended up with this little beauty.

The North East Blogging Awards // And the Winners are...

Last Wednesday night, myself and Yasmina from The July Journal headed over to Lane 7 in Newcastle for the NE Blogger Awards.

Lane 7 was such a great venue. It is a 1950's style bowling ally, with a bar and yummy American diner style food. I'll be heading back for some bowling and drinks very soon!

I've linked all the winners from each category below, go check out their blogs as each one is amazing. Here are a few photos from the night...

Monday Wishlist #37

1. Topshop Pleated Foil Playsuit: I was browsing Topshop when I spotted this beaut. I love a playsuit, and this one would be perfect simply with a pair of black heels and a black clutch, or with tights, heeled ankle boots and a blazer over the top for a more casual look.

2. River Island Grey Mohair Cowl Neck Jumper: The slightly cropped shape of this jumper means it will look great with a pair of high waisted jeans, or with a bodycon midi skirt for a more dressed up look.

3. Jeffrey Campbell Boots: Another week another pair of boots. If I could buy every pair of black ankle boots I fell in love with I'd have hundreds and hundreds! What makes these different though is the cut out detail. I really like the shape of the toe, too. Pointed, but still rounded off slightly.

4. River Island Monochrome Skirt: Bodycon skirts look great with chunky jumpers, tights and boots in the winter. The monochrome print on this one means it could basically be worn with any colour top.

WIWTW (What I Wore This Week) #54

On Wednesday night myself and Yasmina, who writes The July Journal, headed over to Lane 7 in Newcastle for the North East Blogger Awards. It was such a great night, and getting to meet Carly from Beauty Sauce, and Emily who writes ems trends was great! There'll be a post coming up this week with more on that, but for now this is what I wore for the evening...

For those of you who don't know, #Regram Runway is a boutique in Alnwick which stocks brands ranging from Motel and Kiss The Sky, to In Love With Fashion and Sugarhill Boutique. If you're in the area I'd highly recommend a visit. Whether you're looking for something for a special

Halloween // Top 5 Day of the Dead/Sugar Skull Make-up Tutorials

It's that time of year again, when we all get to dress up for Halloween. This year I'm going to attempt to recreate a Day of the Dead, or Sugar Skull, make-up look. I've been watching lots of make-up tutorials for inspiration, here are my five favourites. I'm not going to do my own tutorial as there's so many amazing ones out there already, but check back on Halloween to see how mine turned out!

Thursday Thoughts // How Do I Keep Organised?

As I mentioned in my first Thursday Thoughts, on top of blogging (almost) everyday, I also have two jobs. Today I thought it might be useful to share with you how I stay organised.
First things first. I keep a diary/organiser. If I didn't I wouldn't have a hop in hell of keeping organised, so that's my number one tip. I jot down which posts I want to go up on my blog on which day and as I try to have a blog post up everyday I like to make myself little check lists in my diary for once I've taken photos, wrote the content and scheduled the tweets for each post. I find this really helps me keep on track as sometimes I take photos for a post a week or so in advance. I'd forget what I had and hadn't done for each post if I didn't keep these check lists. Keeping organised like this means that it is achievable to have a post up everyday, it just takes some planning.

My second tip is to have a desk top weekly planner. This one from Busy B is a fairly recent discovery for me, but it is exactly what I've been looking for. On a Sunday night I sit down with a note pad and write down everything I need to do that week. This includes photographs I need to take, posts I need to write and anything else I need to do. On the bottom of each day I also write down if I am at work, and what times. This means I can see how much spare time I have to do each task.

I hope these tips help you if you're in the same situation as me! How do you keep organised?

How I Style: The Airtex Midi Skirt #2

Last week I styled my Topshop Airtex Midi Skirt with a jumper (link). This week I've kept the look monochrome with a slogan tee, black and white sandals and a studded clutch bag for some extra texture.

The monochrome band on the Topshop Midi Skirt adds to the sporty vibe of the outfit.

Maybelline v Nars // (Maybelline ColorDrama Velvet Lip Pencil & Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil)

Maybelline ColorDrama Velvet Lip Pencil & Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

I love lip products in a lip pencil form. You get the pigmentation and formula of a lipstick with the ease of a lip pencil. They're so much easier to apply than your average lipstick bullet, and since they're basically a lip liner and lipstick in one, you get a more precise lip line without the use of a lip brush.

When it comes to bold lip colours, I prefer a matte finish, hence why I'm comparing two matte lip pencils today.

I decided to pick up the Maybelline ColorDrama Velvet Lip Pencil while browsing the aisles of Boots. I hadn't heard a lot about this new lip product, so I decided to look up a few reviews online to see what other people thought of it. The first thing I noticed was that it was being compared to the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils A LOT. Since I didn't already own a Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, I of course had to order one, to see what the fuss was about obviously. I decided on Red Square, which is a lovely orange toned red. The Maybelline ColorDrama Velvet Lip Pencil I chose was in the colour Red Essential. Here's what I thought of the two products and how I think they compare to one another...

Maybelline ColorDrama Velvet Lip Pencil & Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

You can clearly see in these pictures that the Maybelline Pencil is shorter and stubbier, meaning that the Nars pencil has a little better precision, but it's not a huge difference. The Maybelline Lip Pencil is still much smaller than the Revlon Balm Stains. So for precision, I'd say both pencils were equal to one another.

When it comes to application, I found that the Nars Lip Pencil did go on more smoothly than it's drugstore contender, but that doesn't mean the Maybelline Lip Pencil pulled at lips. On the contrary, it felt smooth and not like it was dragging at all.

As for pigmentation, I honestly think that this is where the Maybelline ColorDrama Velvet Lip Pencil came out on top. I barely touched my lips with the pencil and POW! the colour was full and strong on my lips. As you can see in the picture above, the Nars Lip Pencil just seems a touch sheerer. I'm not saying that the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils aren't very pigmented, just that in this case it's the Maybelline dupe that packs the biggest punch.

And last, but certainly not least, lets talk about lasting power. For both of these products, I applied them in the morning when I was doing my make-up, and they stayed put right up until I ate lunch. I only had to touch up the colours slightly after I had eaten, meaning that if I were to wear them for work, which I most certainly will, I won't have to think about the colour fading throughout the shift. Win!

Have you tried either of these Lip Pencils? If so what did you think, and which do you prefer?

Monday Wishlist #36

1. Topshop Sleeveless Side Split Coat: I've seen so many people styling similar jackets to this and it always look so chic. Wear it over a simple pair of skinny jeans and a grey vneck tee for a smart casual look.

2. River Island Black Pony Leather Chelsea Boots: You'll probably be getting sick of seeing black ankle boots on my blog now, but I am OBSESSED. The pony skin texture of these boots are what makes stand out. I'd wear these with a black velvet dress and some opaque tights to play up the different textures. They'd basically look great with anything though.

3. ASOS AMBLE Boots: Soooo, these boots are called the 'AMBLE' boots, and I'm from Amble, and I really want a pair of Timberlandstyle boots. These are perfect, right? I love the colour, the chunky sole and the beige fabric trim. Perfect with jeans and a cosy jumper this autumn.

4. River Island Orange Mohair Knit Dress: A bright jumper will really perk up your autumn wardrobe. Pair this one with wet look leggings and a pair of black pointy heels and you've got a great casual night out look.

Maybelline Colour Elixer // Raspberry Rhapsody & Mandarin Rupture

As with most new lip launches, I'd heard about these Maybelline Color Elixers way before they were released in the UK. They are described as having 'The color of a lipstick, the cushiony care of a balm, and the glass shine of a gloss'.

I chose the colours Rasberry Rhapsody, which is a purple-plum shade, and Mandarin Rupture, which is a bright orange shade.

I thought these lip products would be more of a stain-like formula, but they're certainly not.  I'd describe them as having the texture of a thick lip gloss. They are well pigmented, but not as pigmented as a lipstick in my opinion. They do feel smooth when applied, balm-like and moisturising. I find them to feel quite thick on my lips, and a bit sticky. The stickiness makes them last longer than your typical gloss, but I don't really enjoy that feeling.

When applying the Color Elixers, especially Raspberry Rhapsody, I found the colour to settle around the outer edge of lips and go patchy on the rest of my lips. To get an even colour, I had to apply a lot of product, which made the thickness and stickiness worse.

They did last a good amount of time, though. I wore Raspberry Rhapsody for a six hour shift at work, and the colour was mostly still there at the end of the shift. This was without having anything to eat or drink. When I did eat or drink they were basically worn off and had to be completely reapplied.

I don't think I'll be getting much wear out of these particular lip products as they're just not the kind of thing I enjoy wearing, but if you like long lasting lip glosses and don't mind a bit of stickiness then I'd suggest giving these a go!

How I Style: The Airtex Midi Skirt #1

I've always thought that midi skirts just wouldn't suit me. Especially midi skirts that weren't bodycon. That was until I tried on this Airtex Midi Skirt from Topshop. I think the fact that the main skirt is semi-sheer, with a shorter opaque layer underneath to cover your pants! The fact that you can see my legs through the skirt makes it a little more flattering, rather than it cutting off my legs at an unflattering point.

I kept the sporty feel of the outfit by adding a high necked crop top and a pair of skaters. I'd wear this outfit on casual days, maybe for going out for lunch with my friends, or for a day of shopping.

Check back next week to see my second outfit featuring this Airtex Midi Skirt!

Kiko Queen of Hearts Eyeshadow Palette // 01 Essential Brown

While in Rome last month I popped into Kiko. Kiko is an Italian cosmetics brand, and although they do have a store in London, I've never been. I had a little look around the store but nothing really caught my eye, until I saw these beautiful palette. It reminded me a little of the Charlotte Tilbury's The Dolce Vita palette, because of the gorgeous warm tones. Perfect for autumn, right?

Of course the packing caught my eye, too. Who could resist a Queen of Hearts themed palette? Not me, apparently.

Monday Wishlist #35

1. Topshop Metallic Leather Oyster Card Holder: OK, I don't live in London. Nor do I travel there all that much. BUT the last time I was there I lost my Oyster  card. I think having this lovely holder would make me less like to loose it in future. That is my justification anyway.

2. ASOS Opulent Swing Earrings: I love these earrings. I don't normally like drop earrings like this, they're normally too blingy. These black ones are perfect for wearing with, well, basically any party outfit. I imagine wearing them with a sparkly black/silver dress or jumpsuit, minimal heels and a simple clutch bag.

3. Topshop Crepe Shift Dress: Something else I'm not normally attracted to, the shift dress. I like the look of them off the hangar, but once I put them on they just don't suit me. It my hips, shift dresses just aren't cut for girls with hips. I'd like to try this one on though, I really like the v neck and the grey/pale blue shade.

4. River Island Whatever Print Turtle Neck Tunic: Turtle necks are HUGE this season. Don't get these mixed up with a roll neck. A turtle neck doesn't fold over, where a roll neck does. Turtle necks are much more flattering, in my opinion. This tunic would look great layered over a long sleeved basic black top, a pair of leggings and some trainers for a laid back look.

5. New Look Black Rose Print Wrap Playsuit: I'm a sucker for wrap style dresses at the moment. Playsuits are no different, in fact I prefer a playsuit over a dress. They're more practical, especially if I wanted to wear it for work. No one wants to bend down and flash they're knickers, right? The black background of this print means it will look perfect with tights and boots now, but you could still wear it when next summer comes round with bare legs.

WIWTW (What I Wore This Week) #52

At long last, a new What I Wore This Week post! I don't know why I haven't taken outfit photos for so long, I just haven't felt like I've had the time. They're back now though!

On Tuesday I wore this gorgeous leopard print tunic dress. It's in the New Look sale for a bargainous £7 so if you like it grab it! The black tights and boots are creeping back in. They're a must for me so I can still wear dresses when it's too chilly for bare legs. I normally don't share with you what jackets I wear, as I just throw whatever comes to hand on, but I really like how my khaki jacket looks over the leopard dress. What do you think?

Sephora Pearl Fiber Mask // My Thoughts

Sephora Pear Fiber Mask

I'd never tried a sheet mask before, so when I was browsing Sephora in Rome last month I decided to pick up the Sephora Pearl Mask ‐ Perfecting & Brightening to give it a go. I would normally go for a brightening mask, I'd normally pick a more clearing mask, but for some reason this one caught my eye.

It claims to 'even out skin tone and help to minimise irregularities, and to stimulate skin for high luminosity'. After a night out with the girls I decided to whip it out and see if it would perk up my skin. It definitely needed it!

My Handbag Must Haves

My Handbag Must Haves

I've never been the kind of girl that carries around a full face of make-up in my handbag. I generally don't have time to retouch it while I'm out and about, so there's just no need to carry it with me. I do, however, get a very oily tzone, and sometimes I just can't ignore it. That's when my handbag must haves come in.

I keep this small make-up bag in my handbag all the time. I got it in a MAC gift set a few Christmases ago, with a lip pencil, lip liner and lip gloss. It is the perfect size to fit my essentials in without weighing my bag down.

Any of you oily skinned girls will know that getting rid of shine is what's important, which is why Oil Blotting Paper is my first must have. I recently picked up the Sephora ones, which I really like. I also want to try the MAC oil blotting sheets when these run out, but any will do really.

My next must have is a mattifying powder. I like the Rimmel Stay Matte powder. Once I've blotted away the excess oil, re-powdering my face freshens everything up. It also adds a little more coverage where some of my foundation wears away over the day. And of course, I need a brush to apply the powder, right? This MAC short handled brush also came in a Christmas gift set. The small size makes it perfect to fit into my make-up bag.

I then throw in whatever lippie I'm wearing that day, for if I happen to have enough time to touch it up during the day!

What make-up do you keep in your handbag? Less or more than I do?

Thursday Thoughts // Why Do I Blog?

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvets // Meteoric Matte & Orangeology

When the original Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers first came, there was hype about them everywhere.  Everyone wanted them, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on them! Since then there has been so many different liquid lipstick type products on the market that I think the launch of the new Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet didn't get anywhere near as much attention as the originals did. I was having a little peruse through the make-up aisles of Boots (as you do) when I came across a stand for them. They were on offer, 2 for £10 when I bought them, so of course I got two colours to try out.

Monday Wishlist #34

1. River Island Animal Print Cami: Cami tops are great basics to have in your wardrobe. I have a black one, a red one, and a few printed ones , too. This animal print cami is perfect for the autumn months. Wear with some bootcut jeans, a chunky cardigan and a fedora hat for a laid back autumn outfit.

2. Topshop Cross Back Jumpsuit: Anyone else starting to think about your Christmas party outfit? I know I am! I have two jobs, therefore I have two Christmas parties. I try to pick one outfit and wear it for both events to save a little bit of money. This glittery jumpsuit is a big contender for that outfit. I'd pair it with some simple black heels, a black clutch and maybe a purple lip!

3. Miss Selfridge KENTISH Knee High Boots: AS great pair of knee high boots can take a simple leggings and oversized top from boring to chic. I'm in love with the oxblood colour of these boots, I'd wear them with opaque tights and a smock dress, with a khaki parker over the top for a casual weekend look.

4. Topshop Stripe Rib Crop Top: Stripes are never really not on trend. This type of stripe is a classic look that makes any outfit seem more thought out. Some high waisted wide leg jeans would look amazing with this top!

Rome in Pictures

Last weekend my boyfriend and I flew out to Rome for a few nights. We had such a lovely weekend, I thought I'd share some holiday snaps with you...

When first arrived, it was raining quite heavily. I was worried as I'd only packed summery clothing! It was fine though as the sun started shining at tea time and didn't go away!

We arrived at our hotel around 3pm, so by the time we checked in and settled it, we were starving. We headed out to the Spanish Steps and ate a late lunch/early dinner in a nice little restaurant. I had carbonara and Dave had pizza. You'll see a theme when it comes to food...
