Staycation at Hallgarth The Manor, Durham

As I mentioned in my Valentine's Day make-up post, we don't really celebrate it. Matt's birthday is on Valentine's Day, so we celebrate that instead. With that in mind, I booked us a little staycation at Hallgarth The Manor, Durham.

The room we stayed in was small but perfectly formed. The photographs don't do the room justice as the lighting wasn't great. Cosy, but not ideal for taking blog photos. Plus, I'd forgotten to bring my DSLR so all photographs were taken on my iPhone.
I loved this desk and chair, and the quirky wardrobe. We didn't unpack as we only stayed one night, but it would be a lovely base for a long weekend. The negative I'd say was that the room was in the eves, so one side of the room didn't have standing space. We used this space to open up our case, but if you're quite tall this could be a problem.
The bathroom was dreamy. Dark red and white tiles, and a super fancy shower. I want this bathroom in our flat. Although the bathroom itself was very small, the shower was huge. It's a shame I'd just washed my hair as the I really wanted to try the overhead shower, but y'know, didn't want to get my hair wet. Instead, I used the regular shower head which was just as relaxing.
After we checked into Hallgarth The Manor we decided to head into the centre of Durham. The taxi journey only took about ten minutes to the very centre of the town. We went to Fat Hippo for lunch but I demolished my burger before I managed to take any photographs. I really facied a couple of cocktails but Durham was just sooo busy that we decided to go back to the hotel instead.
The Tavern at Hallgarth The Manor is a lovely, cosy pub. For some reason, I thought I'd read that they serve cocktails, but they don't. We had one drink and then headed back up to our room to watch TV in bed. We don't have a TV in our room at home so it was nice to cosy up in bed and watch The Secret Life of Puppies. The bed was super comfortable, and there's something so luxurious about crisp white sheets in a hotel.
I started to get a little peckish at around 7pm, so we headed back down to The Tavern for something to eat. I really should have only ordered some chips, but clearly, my eyes were bigger than my belly and I decided to order a pizza. When I came I realised my error as the pizza was huge and crammed with toppings. I literally ate one slice and couldn't eat anymore, we were both clearly still stuffed from our Fat Hippo lunch. After finishing off our drinks we headed back up to our rooms for an early night of watching TV in our room.
Breakfast is served between 7 and 10am. We were expecting a continental breakfast but it was actually a hot buffet, bonus. The sausages were delicious, and I love mushrooms so I had to pile a couple of those on my plate. I like being able to choose my breakfast as I'm quite picky and have a fairly small appetite.
If you're looking for a staycation in the North East I'd recommend Hallgarth The Manor, Durham for a cosy, relaxing stay.
